What makes you Uniquely You?
Wow, where do I begin? Let me provide a bit of background. I was expelled from school and used to dread Sunday nights because it meant going back to school the next day. It had a detrimental effect on my health, leading to hospital visits and undiagnosed illnesses. However, once I no longer had to go to school, all those problems miraculously disappeared.
Now, at the age of 34, I am incredibly grateful that I don't have to endure those experiences anymore. I sit here as the CEO of two successful businesses, and I believe my resilience and unwavering belief in my abilities make me unique.
I refuse to give up, knowing that it can't be as bad as it was in the past. It's been an intense crash course in surviving in the business world.
If I worked for anyone else, I would undoubtedly get fired (which has happened in my early career). Despite being dyslexic, it is not a hindrance in my professional life. Unfortunately, the misconception that it only affects me in school followed me into the workplace, with people labelling me as slow and stupid.
I have learned that it is better to be independent, and I am so glad that I held onto the remaining shreds of self-belief and built upon them.
Independence, resilience and refusing to give up, makes me unique.
I have dyslexia and/but…
I can’t spell at all!! I use AI as we speak to write this. I can read familiar things and leant to read at age 17 thanks to a BDA tutor
It is important to raise awareness of dyslexia because…
Well, the dyslexic people I have met run very successful businesses. We are Intelligent and think outside the box. If the school system doesn’t pick it up, it can hinder the confidence of the individual.
